Getting here — Le Martinet Base

20 min from Barcelonnette, 45 min from Embrun.

Our base is at the village of Le Martinet, on the left bank of the Ubaye, at the confluence with the Grand Riou de La Blanche — 15 minutes downstream from Barcelonnette, in the heart of the lower valley.

How to get here ?

From upstream

SP100 from Cuneo through the Stura di Demonte valley.
Cross the Col de Larche (1 991 m, D900).
Descend along the Ubayette to Barcelonnette, then follow the D900 towards Gap.

Two options :

  • Head up the Tinée valley via the D2205.
    Cross the Col de la Bonette-Restefond (2 802 m, open in summer).
    Descend to Jausiers and turn left onto the D900, direction Barcelonnette.
  • Head up the Var valley via the D2202.
    Cross the Col de la Cayolle (2 326 m).
    Descend the Bachelard valley to Barcelonnette.

From Barcelonnette, take the D900 towards Gap.

Head up the upper Verdon from Colmars via the D908.
Cross the Col d'Allos (2 247 m).
Descend to Barcelonnette, then take the D900 towards Gap.

Take the D902 up to the Col de Vars (2 109 m).
Descend until you reach the Ubaye, downstream from Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye.
Turn right at Les Gleizolles onto the D900, follow it to Barcelonnette, then continue towards Gap.

Take the D900 towards Gap and drive through the villages of Les Thuiles and La Fresquière.
After 2 km, cross the bridge over the Ubaye, then — after the speed camera — turn left, direction Le Martinet.
Turn left again; our car park is 150 m further on, on the left, opposite the communal bins.

🚌 By bus : Le Martinet stop 150 m from our base — SCAL line connecting Barcelonnette and Gap.

From downstream

Whatever your route, the final stretch is the same : drive through the village of Lauzet-Ubaye, continue towards Barcelonnette for 6 km, then turn right direction Le Martinet — before the speed camera and the bridge — then turn left. Our car park is 150 m further on, on the left, opposite the communal bins.

2 routes available — do you prefer river or lake ?

  • River : Leave Gap via the Route de la Luye (to the south).
    Follow the Durance upstream towards Barcelonnette via the D900.
  • Lake : Leave Gap via the N94 (east) towards Briançon as far as Savines-le-Lac.
    Turn right at the entrance to Savines and follow the Serre-Ponçon reservoir.
    Follow directions to Barcelonnette via the D954, then the D900.

Fancy cooling off in fresh water ?

From Aix, join the A51 motorway, which heads up the Durance valley.
Exit at the La Saulce-Tallard toll (end of motorway).
Follow directions to Tallard via the D942, then join the D900 towards Barcelonnette.

Fancy a river warmer than the Guisane or the Romanche ?

Follow the Durance downstream to Embrun.
At Savines-le-Lac, turn right.
Follow directions to Barcelonnette via the D954, then the D900.

2 routes worth taking :

  • Head up the Drôme valley through Crest and Die, then join Gap via Veynes.
  • Head up the Eygues valley via Nyons, then join Tallard.

Head to Grenoble and go south on the A480 — 2 routes from there :

  • Take exit 8 towards Vizille, and join Gap via the N85 (Route Napoléon) and the Drac valley.
  • Stay on the A480, which becomes the A51 (Trièves), then continue on the D1075 to reach Gap via Veynes and the Buëch valley.
